The debate about whether or not high fashion clothing is worth the higher costs when there are so many less expensive knock-offs available, is not likely to be settled any time soon. The debate has been going on for too long. Regardless of where you fall in the debate, there are some valid reasons that do justify spending more for high-end clothing.
Designer Clothing Almost Always Looks Better
The style and cut of designer clothing is nearly always more polished then their knock-offs. Lower-end retail chains may sell clothing with the general appearance of designer products, but their cut is nearly always more general to fit a wider range of people.
They are designed with the masses in mind, where-as designer clothing is much more tailored to a particular body size. For example, compare a lower-end coat to a Burberry coat of the same size, and there is no comparison between fits. On the other hand, just because you might fit into a small, doesn’t mean that the more tailored look of a high-end small will look right on you. It can vary between designers.
Better Materials Mean Better Quality
It’s not always the case, but generally speaking, high-end clothing tends to be made from better materials. Rather than being made of nylon, polyester, or a cotton-blend, designer clothing is made from high quality wool, silk, rayon, and cotton.
That’s not to say that less expensive clothing can’t look very nice. It can, and often does. The difference will be in the way the clothing feels against your skin, the way it moves with you, and how it breathes. For example, you’ll be warmer in a jacket made with 100% cotton or wool, but you’ll sweat more in a jacket made from a 90% polyester and 10% spandex blend.
Designer Clothing Lasts Longer
It’s a bold statement, but it’s true. Designer clothing lasts longer. This is an important consideration because, in many cases, you’ll offset your savings from buying less expensive knock-offs by decreasing how often you have to replace clothing.
Being more durable also means that your clothing looks better longer. Long before replacing lesser priced clothing, it starts to break down. A thread breaks loose there, color starts to fade, and the material gets thin over stress points. The higher quality of materials used for designer clothing makes it much less likely that you’ll have to suffer through embarrassing clothing mishaps, like a ripped seam.
People Feel More Confident Wearing Designer Clothing
Designer clothing instills confidence. When you wear it, you know you look good. You know people are admiring your sense of style and decorum. This is probably the deciding factor for most people for why they are willing to spend extra for designer clothing. It’s important to most people to feel good about themselves, and confident throughout their day. Designer clothing provides that for you.
Whether or not the price of designer clothing is worth it to you, largely comes down to individual preferences. If you value quality above quantity, and like your clothing to be a better reflection of you, then you probably prefer to wear high fashion clothing. You understand the importance of feeling and looking better.
